Signing up for Medicare can be overwhelming, but the good news is that there is one place you can turn to right here on the Coastal Turn.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Today is the start of Medicare enrollment, and luckily the Coastal Bend has resources to help residents enroll.
Regional Agency on Aging / Director of the Aging and Disability Resource Center, Viola Monrreal understands the intricacies of Medicare enrollment and helps residents complete their applications.
“To understand some of the real language, there are things that change every year,” Monrreal said.
Coastal Bend resident Yvette Ramirez uses the center as a resource to complete her application each year.
“I don’t quite understand it,” Ramirez said.
In addition to herself, Ramirez also helps her mother with completing her medicare application. Ramirez wants to make sure she asks all the right questions about her plan.
“It’s easier for me to come here than doing it on my own or doing it online because sometimes you have a lot of questions,” Ramirez said.
According to Monrreal, the program makes it easier for residents like Ramirez who might not understand the underlying details of medical coverage.
“Many times, a person will receive a letter from their insurer indicating that certain drugs are no longer covered. There is an increase in the cost of drugs and this is the perfect opportunity for them to make comparisons to see what is out there, ”said Monrreal.
Experts such as True Northern Insurance Agency Broker, Raymond Scott, want residents to know the breadth of their options.
“What we can do as a broker is show them a variety of companies that we work with that can meet their needs,” Scott said.
With experts filling in the blanks, residents like Ramirez felt comfortable enough to sign up for a plan.
“You come out very happy with the things they explain, and you can see them in your assurance,” Ramirez said.
