ELY – The Veterans Clinic (VA) just completed a renovation that added 2,400 square feet of renovated space and 5,040 square feet of new space. A groundbreaking ceremony and grand opening celebration took place last Friday.
The completed project enables the outpatient clinic to provide additional health services including mental health care, primary and internal medicine, and women’s health care to former military combatants in the region.
Minneapolis VA Health Care System Director Patrick Kelly attended the inauguration and thanked the “dedicated staff” of the Ely VA clinic for continuing to provide “top notch” health care to alumni. military fighters in the region.
Kassidy Karnik, director of the Minneapolis VA Health Care Systems Community Ambulatory Clinic and St. Louis County Veteran Services Officer, also took part in the grand opening celebration.
The Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board supported the project with a development infrastructure grant of $ 247,918 to the town of Ely. Infrastructure improvements required for the building expansion included relocating a sanitary sewer line, installing a storm sewer, replacing sidewalks to provide ADA access, extending a new sewer service and restoration of the roadway and parking that serves the building.
The clinic opened in 2013 and is located on Miners Drive in the city-owned Sato building in Ely Business Park. Other tenants in the building include CWT Travel and the State Department of Revenue.
The clinic currently serves about 450 veterans, has six staff and is expected to hire two more staff. The expansion created around 15 construction jobs. The total project investment was $ 2.95 million.
