Original Climate Change Leader Former Vice President Al Gore to be Special Guest of Former US Senator and Ambassador to China Max Baucus October 28 via ZOOM as part of the UM Baucus Institute series.

Director of the UM Institute and professor at the University’s Blewett Law School, Sam Panarella provided details to KGVO News.

“We have the Baucus Institute, which of course is named after Max Baucus, former senator from Montana and ambassador to China,” Panarella said. “One of our flagship programs focuses on climate change and engages students in finding solutions to climate change. Vice President Gore and Senator Baucus are long time friends and colleagues and we had conversations and realized that it would be great to bring the Vice President. He was going to come in person but of course with the pandemic we will do it virtually. “

Panarella said the October 28 topic will, of course, focus on climate change.

“The subject is climate change,” he said. “The whole discussion will be about the threat of climate change both in the world and in America. And then, in particular, we’re going to talk about Montana and some of the impacts we’re already seeing in Montana on our farming and ranching communities and on our water resources from climate change.

Panarella said the former vice president will address climate change on various platforms.

“It’s going to have a local, national and global focus,” he said. “China will probably come for a bunch of reasons, including the fact that China is the world’s largest emitter of greenhouse gases, but the United States is next. Of course, Ambassador Baucus has spent time in China and Vice President Gore is working on many different initiatives to try to get our two countries to work together to tackle climate change.

Panarella provided the public with contact and access information to participate in former Vice President Al Gore’s UM Baucus Institute series presentation.

“It’s October 28e, at 7:00 p.m. and it’s a virtual event, “he said.” We’ll be holding it on ZOOM. There will also be an overflow available on a YouTube Live channel. Everyone is welcome to attend.
