Jacksonville, Fla. — Councilman Garrett Dennis announced his resignation from the Jacksonville City Council on Monday.
The Democrat, representing District 9, plans to run for a seat in the State House, District 14.
In a press release, Dennis said, “There is a fight in Tallahassee that must be won on behalf of our families and our workers here in Jacksonville.”

He said: “We need urgent action to protect the right to vote, for equity funding in job creation and affordable housing, and to reduce health care costs for the elderly. These are the issues I have championed during my career in public life and I will fight for them every day in the state legislature.

Dennis was elected to city council in 2015 and re-elected in 2019.
He said helping small businesses succeed will be a primary focus of his job if elected to the state legislature.
General elections are scheduled for November 8, 2022.
The primary is scheduled for August 23, 2022.
