IEHP participates in national study on community catalysts | New

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, California, July 6, 2021 / PRNewswire / – A new report released by Community Catalyst, a national nonprofit health advocacy organization, suggests that federal policies be adopted to better support people doubly eligible for Medicare-Medicaid health plans. The study also presents specific policies on outreach and enrollment strategies. To provide these recommendations and complement the study, Community Catalyst worked with state organizations and health plans across the country, including the Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP) and its doubly eligible members.

Vice-President of Strategy of the IEHP, Thomas pham, was part of the Community Catalyst Reactor Group, Stakeholder Perspectives on Enrollment, and developed the report findings and provided insight on facilitating a person-centered enrollment strategy, current barriers and potentials and how the state can best support the effort.

“Healthcare is incredibly personal, and a person-centered enrollment strategy that puts the individual needs of our doubly eligible members first is essential to optimizing their health,” said Pham. “This is especially necessary for our Medicare-Medicaid population, as double-eligible people have lower incomes and are over 65 or have a disability and / or complex long-term care needs. The results of the study illustrate the need to better serve our dual-eligible population.

The study points to important factors that would help double-eligible people to enroll or stay enrolled, including the ability to see needed providers, availability of accessibility materials to help people make informed decisions, talk to people well informed of the advantages and the possibility of receiving additional or complementary services.

Additional results reveal that large networks within the Medicare-Medicaid model would have a positive impact on the ability of members to maintain regular access to providers and concludes that current enrollment processes present some challenges in the capacity of doubly eligible individuals. review accessible documents, speak with a knowledgeable person, and learn about the benefits – all of which relate to the impact on enrollment and maintaining enrollment.

The study offers several policy recommendations to help meet these needs.
