MHS GENESIS: Coming to a Military Treatment Center in Hawaii Near You | Item

HONOLULU – Hawaii’s Military Health System, consisting of Army Tripler Medical Center, Hawaii Naval Health Clinic, Desmond T. Doss Health Clinic, and 15th Medical Group will move to new dossier Department of Defense Electronic Health Officer, MHS GENESIS, September 25.

When fully implemented, MHS GENESIS will provide a single health record for military members, veterans and their families, securely accessible 24/7 from any electronic device. The new system offers improved and secure technology, integrating inpatient and outpatient health records across the continuum of care, from the point of injury to the military treatment center. Ultimately, MHS GENESIS will be used throughout the Department of Defense, providing a single electronic health record system serving all branches of the military.

The MHS GENESIS Patient Portal will replace TRICARE Online. Starting September 25, patients will be able to use the Patient Portal to view their electronic health records; exchange secure messages with their healthcare team; schedule appointments; request prescription renewals; review clinical notes, references and lab results; and much more.

Before September 25, patients must verify their personal information in DEERS and can do so by visiting their nearest military ID office or by going online at /.

Recipients without a Common Access Card (CAC) will need to create a DS Logon Premium account at Once patients have successfully created their DS Logon or accessed the website through their CAC, they will need to upgrade their account to “Premium Access”. Once the preliminary steps are complete, patients will be able to access the new MHS GENESIS Patient Portal by visiting

The launch of MHS GENESIS follows months of in-depth preparation, including up to 120 hours of staff training, internal infrastructure changes and equipment upgrades. In the first few weeks, providers and patients can expect reduced appointment availability and increased wait times as providers and staff adjust to new workflows, processes. and clinical software.

Recipients in Hawaii can help prepare for the transition to MHS GENESIS by 1) making routine appointments as soon as possible; 2) verify that all personal information contained in DEERS is up to date; 3) ensure that DS Logon Premium access is established; and 4) keep hard copies of healthcare referrals.
