Colonel Mayo Phillips Morris

WNSLOW – Colonel Mayo Phillips Morris, retired from the United States Army, joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in heaven on January 7, 2022. Born October 14, 1940 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, son of John and Georgia Morris. He was predeceased by his first wife Diane Hayes, brothers John and Charles and sister Mary Frangipani. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sue “Susie”, his sister Barbara Drummond, his sons Paul, Chris and his wife Jennifer, John and his wife Markayla. He was a beloved dad to Walker, Kensington, and Ella-Elizabeth. Raised on Long Island, he enlisted in the United States Army at age 18. He proudly served his country for 36 years with tours that included Germany with the 3rd Infantry Division, Okinawa and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, before attending Kings Park State School. of nursing in 1966. Mayo has been a dedicated health care professional for 37 years as a nurse anesthetist. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his Cessna Skyhawk, Harley Davidson and Skidoo snowmobiles. He was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and sniper. Mayo was the embodiment of a true family man. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at Northern Light Hospital and Oak Grove Residential Care Facility. Special thanks to Dr. Christine Lu-Emerson of Maine Neurology for her exceptional care for Parkinson’s disease. We would like to thank our special friends George Brochu, Pastor William Cripe and Pastor Stephen Meidahl for their unconditional support and fellowship. A memorial service will be held at First Church, 1 Park Street in Waterville on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 11 a.m. and condolences can be shared with the family at directcremationofmaine.com.
