Sheppard Mullin adds health care partner in Dallas

DALLAS – (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP is pleased to announce that Phillip L. Kim has joined the firm’s corporate practice group and healthcare team as a partner in the office from Dallas. He joins Haynes Boone. He is the fifth healthcare partner to join Sheppard Mullin this year.

Kim represents various types of providers, ranging from healthcare systems, hospitals, day surgery centers, physician groups, including nonprofit healthcare organizations (NPHOs), home care providers and other health care companies on the buy and sell side of mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures, as well as on a myriad of regulatory issues. Kim is also helping multinational tech companies enter the digital health space with various service and collaboration agreements for their wearable technology. He also works with public medical device, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, as well as with investment banks that serve as underwriters involved in public offerings of securities for these healthcare companies.

In addition, Kim works with clients on healthcare agreements, professional service agreements and supplier agreements, including the transition of hundreds of physicians from an old group of physicians to a new NPHO with a model of restructured employment. Kim regularly advises clients on healthcare compliance issues involving exposure to liability, Stark Law, anti-recoil laws, and HIPAA / HITECH privacy issues. He also advises clients on matters involving federal and state health laws, complex business structuring and formation issues, employment issues, and matters involving various government agencies, including various Medicaid agencies. Kim got her BA, with honors, from the University of Texas at Austin and his JD, cum laude, from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law where he was editor-in-chief of the SMU Science and Technology Law Review.
